Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Review
Is It Even Assassin’s Creed?
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the second grand open-world game by Ubisoft. You play as either Alexios or Kassandra, siblings living in Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War. In this game there is no brotherhood, no hidden blades, or Templars. Because of this new direction, Odyssey feels less like an AC story, and more like it could have been a totally random game if not for the return of Layla Hassan from Ac Origins anchoring it to the modern-day plot. One thing Ubisoft does do right is give you a huge map to explore, and there’s never a dull moment as you uncover and collect everything the map has to offer. Odyssey doesn’t come without its weak points. One glaring issue is Alexios and Kassandra. You are given the option to play one of them. However, only one character is the canonical main character in the story (Kasandra) but for some reason the game lets you play as Alexios. It’s a strange and frustrating decision, especially once you realize you may have picked the ‘wrong’ character. The last major weak point comes from the war system that allows you to choose between sides in each conflict per zone. This mechanic feels very repetitive and underbaked, leading to points in the game that feel like a slog. Despite being a good game, It doesn’t quite feel like Assassin’s Creed at its core.
Considerations:
✅ Huge open world to explore
✅ Feel powerful with new combat system
❌ Doesn’t “feel” like AC
❌ Battles feel pointless
❌ Scared to let Female be lead character
Final Verdict:
6.5 Malakas out of 10
